Hair oiling 101

India is a wonderful nation with deeply ingrained traditions and ideals at its foundation. Our views and beliefs are supported by the history of almost 5000 years of medical knowledge, and the science of Ayurveda, and are not fanciful. Ayurveda is the exceptional and wonderful science of herbal medicine, which holds that every disease or requirement for medical care can be treated by nature. For every disease, Ayurveda has a herb or a trick up its sleeve. from the bottom of your feet to the shaft of your hair. There are remedies there for anything from curing pain to curing chapped feet to strengthening and growing out your hair to reversing grey hairs.

Additionally, there is a scientific justification for the timing and application of such advice. Ayurveda is unquestionably a gold mine of knowledge.

Hair oiling, also known as "Champi" by our Dadi maa or Bhauji, is one such deeply entrenched custom that has become a part of who we are. The act of oiling is so straightforward, but it brings back such vivid memories for us. When we didn't want to put oil on or go to school on school days, our elders not only insisted but also patiently massaged our heads while explaining why oiling was good for our hair. The mind, body, and soul can all benefit from the simple act of applying oil to our hair and scalp. It is not only beneficial to your hair but also a form of self-care. Did you know that when applying oil, there are a few dos and don'ts to keep in mind? Let us elaborate on it for you.

choose the appropriate oil

These days, the market offers a wide variety of oils. oils range from natural to medicinal. The proper hair oil should be chosen with the same care as the ideal companion. To do this, one must first and foremost understand what their hair and scalp require. Instead of blindly adhering to a fad or trend, it's critical to address the specific hair-related problems each encounter. The thickness or thinness of the hair should be taken into account while selecting the best hair oil.

whether the strand has frizzy or coarse hair. whether or not your scalp is dry or greasy To make an informed choice, several other hair-related factors must be taken into account, including hair loss, early ageing, brittle roots, weak shafts, split ends, alopecia, dandruff, hair damage from hair treatments, and a plethora of other problems. One frequently uses coconut oil, mustard oil, sesame oil, almond oil, olive oil, castor oil, and argan oil for hair care.

How frequently should I oil

It's recommended to oil your hair frequently, but once or twice a week should be plenty to give your scalp and hair shafts the additional moisture they need. Every three to four days, you should massage your scalp for at least five minutes to improve blood flow there and strengthen your hair follicles.

How long should the oil be left?

Studies show that putting your oil in for 3 to 4 hours is plenty to allow all the goodness to seep in, even though many people may like to keep the oil in overnight. Simply put, leaving it overnight hydrates your pillowcase even more. Phew! No need to, right? As the oil tends to trickle down on your face or transfer through the pillow into your skin, another drawback of leaving it on overnight is the development of zits.

hair combing and tying

Before using hair oil, one should comb their hair because rubbing their hair might further knot it, making it difficult to untangle afterwards. After oiling your hair, it is best to avoid combing it, or at least not too vigorously, as this could damage the hair roots and lead to breaking. If one must comb, carefully eliminate knots with a wide-tooth comb. Too-tight hair ties are still another sin. Another cause of weak roots and hair fall is braiding your hair or putting it back into a tight ponytail after oiling. Keep your look current even with greasy hair by bunning them in a loose untidy bun.

application of oil

It's quite calming to oil your hair. Both your body and mind are relaxed by it. There is almost a spiritual quality to it. A relaxing head massage should be performed after oiling your hair. In addition to healing the soul, using gentle circular motions repeatedly for five to ten minutes also benefits the scalp. P.S. Remember to massage your entire scalp; many people only do the top. Head massage strengthens hair follicles and improves blood flow. It also aids in the restoration of split ends, resulting in healthier, shinier, and more voluminous hair.

Wet or dry scalp

Whether oil is applied to dry or damp hair, little change is made. The scalp needs to be clean, and that is the most critical consideration. The nutrients won't get through to the hair follicles if the scalp is already greasy and covered in filth. We frequently make compromises and put other things ahead of ourselves in our bustling, busy lives. Later, we find ourselves spending more time and resources attempting to fix the harm we should have avoided in the first place. So let's get back to the basics and make your hair the centre of attention!
